The Return of Chicken Breasts

For more than two weeks there has not been a single chicken breast in the local supermarkets. After we used up our frozen supply a week and a half ago, KB and I have gone to the supermarket everyday looking for them, sometimes even walking to multiple supermarkets in our quest to find them. We have gone 2 weeks without meat... that is unless you count the bacon on the "Delicious Bacon" pizza at Pizza Hut as meat. However today, we received a phone call from our friend - that's right, we even had our friends on the lookout, the chicken breasts have returned to our little city. We ate them for lunch and dinner, and AB as usual refused to eat them both times.

Crosswalk

Trash cans.

Egg Head

As customary, AB smeared part of her dinner on her face, and this particular evening she was eating scrambled eggs. However we noticed that every 30 seconds or so, she suddenly looked up at something, and we realized it was the egg she was seeing in her peripheral. We caught a bit of it on video.

By the way, the girl laugh you hear on the video is not my laugh. It is KB laughing.

AB's Maternal Instincts

My good friends Shelley, Beth, Catherine, Emily, and Jacob gave AB this doll for her birthday. She has quickly come attached to it. She is often holding it when we get her from bed after her nap, and she has become quite protective of it recently. She often hands her baby doll to me to hold for safe keeping. She especially likes it when I sing "Rock a Bye Baby" to her baby doll, over and over again. Super cute!

Snow Day!

Although we live in a pretty cold place, we do not get a lot of precipitation during the winter. Therefore when it actually snows it is a big deal, and the city is never prepared for it. It shuts down like all small towns in Texas do when it snows. Today I saw men trying to scrape the ice off of the road with shovels. I though, "yeah that will do it," but then I remembered in a city of 10 million if enough people head outside with their shovels, then it really will do it!

All that to say, it snowed two evenings ago. Since AB likes to get up at 7am, we decided to go out into the snow before everyone else did. My dad would have been proud (remember Disney World, Six Flags, Sea World, snow skiing vacations...?), we were outside by 8am. The snow was still falling, and she did not like getting it in her eyes, so it was an adventure getting her to even look up. She prefered to keep her eyes looking down or closed. I was still able to get one really good shot then we immediately went back inside. All together we were outside maybe 5 minutes. It was really cold!

Short Robe

This robe was made for a baby up to 9 months old. AB is 13 months old, and as you can tell from the pictures below she is obviously wearing the robe. I figure it will just keep getting shorter and shorter as time goes by. I do not mind. I think her little legs look so cute poking out from under the robe. She usually wears the robe while her daddy gets the bath ready. We just have to keep her away from the rug because she does not wear a diaper with the robe. Hey, accidents do happen : )

Train Ride

Riding a slow train in this country is never a preferred form of transportation, but it is ALWAYS better than riding the bus. Recently KB had to make a trip to another city. He sent me this picture on my cell phone so I would not forget about him.

Milk and Spaghetti

Ever since AB turned 1 a little less than a month ago, she has been drinking milk. I was nervous that she would not like it, but my fears were apparently not necessary. She LOVES milk. Our helper thinks I am crazy for giving it to her cold, but that is the way she likes it and it is easiest on me. We have been trying to teach her sign language for "milk please," but it is absolutely not sticking. Instead we usually know she is ready for milk when she makes one long grunt. I have also learned it is a crime to take her milk away before she is finished - this usually receives a very ernest sequence of three grunts. Of course we say, "tell mommy (or daddy) what you want," and sign everything for her, but like I said, it is not sticking.

In this picture it seems as if she is saying, "don't you take my milk!"

This is ultimately how her meal ended this day. She rubbed her spaghetti into her eyes and started crying. Spaghetti she is not so much a fan of.

Ice in the Bathroom at the University

Basically, the toilet overflowed, it is below freezing outside, and the buildings are not heated...you can figure it out.

Aren't They Great?

I love these two picture of KB and AB. In this first one she is looking at him (obviously), but in the second one she is laughing at her reflection in the mirror. She thinks the baby in the mirror is hilarious!

What is Mommy Doing?

Is she actually...
... painting my toes? Ummm, that would be a yes.

The Last of Her One Year Pictures

Here is AB when she was just a few days old...
...and here she is a year later! She did not quite triple her size - more like 2.5 times her original weight, but she is proportional.
This great dress was a little too big for her, so I improvised.

Who is she looking at? It is the person who always makes her smile in pictures, her daddy.

Stinking Bows!

It was a sad day when AB learned how to take off her hair bow. Now it is the first thing she reaches for when I try to take pictures of her while wearing one.

In this picture she is waving her bow around in the air after she has just pulled it off. I interpret it as gloating.
After the bow has been put back on, she reaches behind her head to grab a hold of it.
This one is pretty self-explanatory...
...and this is what immediately followed it.
Now with her sparse hair properly messed-up, she is examining what she just yanked out off of her head.

No Spitting Sign

Sweet AB

After taking some pictures of AB a few weeks ago, she decided to show me some love. I can't get enough of her affectionately laying her head on me. It is so enduring.
